COVID-19 solutions – Video tech for witnessing legal documents

Video conferencing technology like Skype, WhatsApp, FaceTime and Zoom can now be used in the witnessing of important legal documents like wills, powers of attorney and statutory declarations under a new regulation made on 22 April 2020 by the Governor.

The signing of key legal documents including wills, powers of attorney and statutory declarations will now be able to witnessed in NSW using video technology, following the passing of an emergency regulation under section 17 of the Electronic Transactions Act 2000 (NSW).

The new regulation will expire 6 months from 22 April 2020 unless NSW Parliament decides otherwise.
