Thomas Galton

Thomas Galton

Tom was born and raised on the Central Coast and has lived in the region for most of his life. After completing his schooling at Central Coast Grammar School, he studied arts, followed by law, at Newcastle University.

He was admitted as a solicitor in 2014 while working at a law firm in Sydney. The experience of city life led him to fully appreciate the extraordinary beaches and national parks on the Central Coast and encouraged him to return and join the team at Ryan & Seton Lawyers. Fortunately, he managed to convince his beautiful partner, Mel, to relocate from Sydney with him.

Tom’s focus is on family law and he has worked exclusively in this area. He has established a reputation for assisting clients in moving elegantly, and with dignity, through the family law process to obtain the best outcome. Tom understands that clients may bring sadness and uncertainty along with their legal problems. With compassion, he aims to see that these emotions do not cloud judgment and prevent those separating from seeing what would represent a sensible resolution. He takes pride in satisfying clients and shortening, if not eliminating, litigation. Since joining the firm, Tom has also expanded his practice and experience to assisting clients in criminal and traffic matters in the Local Court and has developed a high level of expertise in the area.

Tom is passionate about balancing working life with activities which keep him fit and functioning at a high level. He tracks the wind and the waves and, whenever possible, you will find him in the ocean engaged in a variety of water sports, trekking through the region’s national parks, or in a comfortable chair with a book.

Michael Seton

Michael Seton

Having grown up predominantly on the Central Coast, Michael headed south after completing high school – another member of the Central Coast Grammar School alumni – to study law and psychology at the University of Sydney.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science (Psychology), he began practicing law with a national mid-tier firm in Sydney before returning to join one of the leading small firms on the Central Coast. After a number of years at that firm, Michael went on to complete his Master of Laws and establish Ryan & Seton Lawyers with Tony.

Michael is admitted as a solicitor in both the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia, meaning he is able to appear in any NSW or Commonwealth Court or Tribunal. As a result, he travels frequently between Sydney and Newcastle – and also interstate – to appear in Court on behalf of his clients. Specialising in family law, criminal law, civil litigation, dispute resolution and advocacy, Michael also draws on his extensive commercial experience to assist clients to find innovative solutions catered to meet their needs in all matters.

In late 2017, Michael was endorsed by the Law Society of NSW as an Accredited Specialist in Family Law.

He also maintains a current posting of Flight Lieutenant and Legal Officer as a specialist reservist with the Royal Australian Air Force.

In his spare time, Michael likes to keep fit and active. He loves running of all distances, including locally with the Terrigal Trotters, and made his marathon debut in Berlin in 2017. He is also a keen, but rather average, cricketer and enjoys his ongoing association with the mighty Terrigal Matcham Cricket Club. More recently, he has proudly accepted the mantle of ‘Dance Dad’ for his dance-loving daughter.

Tony Ryan

Tony Ryan

The Ryan name is well known in the legal community on the Central Coast – and with good reason. Tony and his family have been serving the local community for many years and Tony is committed to continuing this rewarding legacy.

Tony initially dabbled in teaching as a possible career path after completing high school – he remains a proud member of the Central Coast Grammar School alumni to this day – and obtained his necessary tertiary qualification. Then a lengthy trip to the depths of South America somehow made him realise what he had been missing out on – the beautiful practice of law. While many consider it dull and uninteresting, Tony is passionate about it. He returned to Australia and commenced his Bachelor of Laws and then forgot to stop studying. He now has a Master of Commercial Laws, Master of Applied Laws (Wills & Estates) and is currently completing another Master of Applied Laws.

Since first graduating, Tony has worked in this practice and trained under his father, John Ryan, who has been acting for clients on the Central Coast for over 40 years and was NSW’s longest serving Arbitrator. Tony couldn’t have wished for a better mentor and his abilities as a lawyer are a testament to that. Tony specialises in property and commercial work and has a particular passion and aptitude for Wills and estates.

Tony is an outstanding basketball player, having played since the age of five. He still plays with his father at Terrigal Basketball Stadium in a team founded by his father in the 1980s. Tony is an avid aviator and has recently attained his Recreational Pilot’s License. Tony can often be seen cruising the skies above our beautiful coastline or navigating his way around the State. Surfing has been a constant in his life, and he’ll duck out to quickly “hang ten” when time allows. Recently, Tony has taken a keen interest in personal training and is a bit of a fitness fanatic. He loves his early morning gym or yoga sessions.

If you ask him, though, there’s nothing in this world he enjoys more than spending time with his wonderful young son.
